On Wednesday, we took Ellie for her 2 week wellness check. She had a fantastic appointment! Here are her stats:
Weight: 8 lbs. 9 oz. (25%)
Height: 21.5" (75%)
Head: 13.5"
The doctor said she is tall and skinny...not something the Hickman side hears very often! I still can't believe that she is a 'big' girl. We were are Target today and the cashier asked how old she was. When I told her, she commented "wow, she looks to be a good sized girl!" Hmmm...

When Mommy is sick...
It's never fun to be sick, but when you are a mom it seems a bit harder. Last week, I had a little trouble nursing Ellie. Things got better and I thought we were back on track. Then, Tuesday afternoon, I woke up from a nap and was in a lot of pain. I had a temp of almost 102, horrible chills and was dizzy! It hit me really fast...
When you are that sick, every selfish bone in your body comes out. Nolan and Ellie needed me, and all I could do was wish away the minutes until Jason could get home so he could take care of them. I didn't want to move, let alone play trains with Nolan...or change dirty diapers. I just wanted to lay in my own bed for a moment. I felt so guilty. Nolan kept coming up and pulling my hand trying to get me to come play...but I couldn't.
Jas finally got home and we decided I needed to get in to the doctor right away. Off I went and was diagnosed with Mastitis. I'm now on the mend with some antibiotics and Tylenol with Codeine.
When I am sick, I want my own mom to be with me. Jason was taking wonderful care of me, but there is just something about having your mom there. I am so blessed she could come up and stay with me. She really made it possible for me to get through the past few days. Of course, Mom has done too much while she is here. I was just grateful to have her company, but she can't stop there...she has cleaned the house, done my HUGE pile of laundry, played with Nolan, and helped with meals. It's just how moms are!! We appreciate her more than words can say.

Big Brother...big helper!
Yesterday was bath day at our house. Bath time is one of Nolan's favorite things, so when it was time for Ellie's bath, Nolan had to help! He is such a good big brother; holds her hand when it is diaper changing time so Ellie doesn't cry, helps with bath time, brushes her hair...you name it, he helps :)
So far, he hasn't shown too much jealousy. Nolan doesn't totally understand though when she is eating, Mommy can't get up to help him. That frustrates him a bit. Overall, he is just a proud big brother and I couldn't be more proud of him!!
Nolan is also very much into 'cooking' with Mom and Dad! He has helped Mom make chocolate chip cookies and here, he was helping Dad make Sunday morning pancakes...

Ellie's Birthday - March 14, 2011
I'm sure most of you know that our newest addition, Ellie Marian, joined us 12 days ago. She was born about a week early and we couldn't have been more ready to meet her! Mom is happy she arrived early as she already weighed in as our 'big' girl: 7 lbs, 14 oz, 21" long! I wasn't expecting her to be quite that big as Nolan only weighed 6 lbs, 9 oz and was 21"...and he was late. It was still a fast, easy, healthy delivery so we are blessed!
She is the 2nd grandchild on the Holthaus side and 5th on the Hickman side. First girl...and the biggest :) She knew she was going to have to fight for her own!
Big brother Nolan is adjusting really well. He can't seem to get enough kisses in! However, he gets a bit upset if he can't hold her when he is ready :)
Jason and I are also getting used to our new schedule. She is a good sleeper at night which has REALLY helped! It has been a much quicker adjustment than it was with Nolan...partly, I'm sure, because we are chasing him around and you don't have another option! The past week I have still been sending Nolan to day-care for half days as I adjust. It also allows him to play with his friends. We have Nolan at an in-home day-care and he is one of three kids there. He does so well and loves to socialize!
Ellie has been a very laid back, mellow baby. Another blessing! Please enjoy a few pictures:
Our First Post
Hi! Welcome to the Holthaus Happenings! We decided to create this blog as a way for everyone to stay in touch with the 'happenings' in our family!
Both Jason and I will blog. We'll update the site with stories and pics of the kids...and if anything exciting happens to the grown-ups, we'll post that too :)
